Truly Sugar Cookies

I am absolutely obsessed with these sugar cookies. I found a recipe I liked online and tweaked it further to make it more to my liking! I even have a couple variations of it!

Truly Sugar Cookies

Prep Time 20 minutes

Equipment

  • Cookie Sheet
  • spatula
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Mixer
  • Scoop/Spoon for the drop cookie version
  • Cookie Cutter(s) for the cutout version
  • Cooling Rack(s)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • cups flour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉
  • In large bowl, mix together the butter and sugar until it is lighter in color and fluffy
  • Add egg and mix well
  • Add baking powder and extract
  • Add flour ¼c at a time until desired consistency*
  • Drop/scoop the cookies onto a cookie sheet leaving a couple inches of space between them
  • Bake 14-17 minutes or until lightly browned edges

Notes

(*) if the dough is too thin, add flour slowly and spoonfuls at a time!
(**) if you are doing cutouts, add a little more flour to make the dough stiff. When it bakes, it won't spread as much
Variations
  • Use the recipe as-is for regular drop sugar cookies!
  • Add flour to make dough thicker for cut out, roll out cookies!
  • Replace ½c of flour with cocoa powder for a brownie flavored delight! These tend to be a little thicker, too. So I add an extra egg to get a cakier cookie.
